What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the best way to turn off your pain and to turn on “feeling great!”
At St Asaph Family Chiropractic Clinic, our expert chiropractor Mr. Steven Massey treats joint, bone and muscle problems. Chiropractic therapy also treats the effects these problems have on the nervous system.
Chiropractic treatment covers all the body’s joints, with a particular emphasis on the back and neck. During treatment the chiropractor uses gentle, specific adjustments with his hands, helping to realign the spine, improving posture and ensuring your joints are moving correctly. This helps you become more mobile, promoting your body’s natural healing and improving the efficiency of your central nervous system.
All chiropractors at St Asaph Family Chiropractic Clinic are members of the General Chiropractic Council, the clinic’s regulating body. We are also members of the British Chiropractic Association, undertaking a minimum four years full-time study. Once qualified, members are fully accredited chiropractors, and can use that title anywhere in the world.
St Asaph Family Chiropractic clinic takes a holistic approach to your health, addressing body, mind and spirit, so, whether you live in Abergele, Flintshire, Llandudno or anywhere within North Wales and the surrounding areas, our chiropractors will optimise your health and release you from pain.
Chiropractic and Osteopathy:
Mr. Steven Massey discusses the difference
“One of the most common questions I get from my patients is “What is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath?” and I have to reply “Not a lot.” When I decided that I wanted to work helping people with physical therapy I spent a lot of time looking into what chiropractors and osteopaths do. I went to osteopathic colleges and observed osteopaths at work. I was very impressed with the osteopaths’ approach; they seemed to be intuitive and to use a lot varied soft tissue techniques. Chiropractors seemed to be very medical/ analytical in their approach and I thought they were able to manipulate exceptionally well; I noticed that their patients often showed immediate relief. At first I was drawn more to the osteopaths’ intuitive approach, but I decided to pursue chiropractic training because I wanted to get that thorough medical training and to be able to have the instant effect on patients that I had seen chiropractors have.
“I am a great believer in using an intuitive approach like the osteopaths and I believe I have developed that to high degree. Since I completed my chiropractic training I have studied many of the soft tissue techniques used by osteopaths and have integrated them into my practice.
“Of course, with advent of evidence based medicine, the chiropractor and osteopath professions are coming together, as they are both using the same evidence base to inform their work. Whenever an osteopath publishes a paper or writes a new book, the chiropractic educators read it, and often integrate the findings/techniques into the chiropractic canon. Likewise osteopaths will use chiropractic material.
“So, essentially there is not a lot of difference between osteopaths and chiropractors. I have my own subjective opinions, but in the end you have to find a clinician who is right for you. Whether you visit a chiropractor or an osteopath you should feel that you can trust them, that you can communicate easily with them, that they explain to you clearly what they are doing and put you at your ease. If they have these qualities, whether they are a chiropractor or an osteopath, they should be able to help you. There are good and bad chiropractors and osteopaths. If you find a good clinician, stick with them.”
Mr Massey’s combination of chiropractic, osteopathy and physiotherapist techniques brings benefit to many people in North Wales including the Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and the towns of Prestatyn, Rhyl, Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Denbigh and Mold.
