What conditions are treated at St Asaph Family Chiropractic Clinic?

Mr Massey’s treatment will align the whole of your body so that you can move better and feel better quickly. His work is unparalleled because he uses not only chiropractic methods, but also osteopath and physiotherapist techniques.

Throughout North Wales, people are seeing the benefits of visiting St Asaph Family Chiropractic Clinic for back, neck, joint problems and headaches.

Back Pain and backache

There is strong evidence that chiropractic can successfully ease back pain. Chiropractors place great emphasis on the spine, which supports our bodies and carries the spinal cord and nervous system. Along the length of your spine are branching nerves, located between the vertebrae. Incorrect lifting or bad posture can lead to misalignment and restriction of these joints, causing back pain. In the lower back, this is called lumbago. Chiropractors’ speciality is the rapid resolution of back pain and ongoing support if you are prone to recurrent back pain. Because Mr Massey uses osteopath and physiotherapy techniques alongside his chiropractic training, he is uniquely placed to help people with back pain.

Disc problems

People frequently use the term “slipped disc” to chiropractors, when what they really mean is a disc which has been damaged. Vertebrae are separated by soft, flexible pads or discs. When these are damaged they can protrude or rupture, pressing on adjacent areas and causing intense leg or back pain.

Pregnancy back pain

Back pain is a common complaint in pregnancy, due to the growing baby placing strain on the lower back. Back pain can also occur following a difficult delivery, or because of the increased lifting and carrying which comes with a new addition to the family.

Pelvic pain

Pain in the lower back, lower abdomen, buttocks, hips, groin and thighs – all are symptomatic of pelvic pain, which can be caused by incorrect lifting and carrying, poor posture or pregnancy. It is often mistaken for hip pain or sciatica, and is usually treated effectively with chiropractic realignment.

Hip pain

Sometimes confused with pelvic pain by chiropractic patients in North Wales, hip pain may be caused by hip joint injuries, strained hip muscles, arthritis or referred back pain.

Leg pain

This can be due to strains to the leg muscles, or hip, knee or ankle joint injury. It can also be caused by sciatic nerve irritation (see Back Pain above) or referred pain from the pelvis or lumbar spine.

Knee Pain

This has an extensive number of causes: damage to the knee cartilage; wear and tear of the joint surfaces; sprained ligaments; muscular imbalance causing patella problems, and strain of the muscles supporting and mobilising the knee joint. Knee pain can also be referred from the pelvis, back, hip or ankle areas.

Foot and ankle pain

This can be due to direct damage to the muscles, joints and ligaments, or through a sciatic nerve injury. “Flat feet”, or fallen arches, can also lead to foot strain.

Neck pain

There is good evidence that chiropractic can help ease neck pain. Neck pain has a number of causes: whiplash, muscle strains, falls, arthritis, stress and poor posture. It can extend into the shoulders and arms. If the nerves supplying the hands and arms become irritated, sufferers may even experience numbness and tingling, similar to pins and needles, of these areas. It is important to first diagnose the cause of the neck pain as this leads to the right treatment plan which will then be effective.

Neck pain is one of chiropractic’s main treatments and Mr Massey can often cure neck pain because he uses a combination of physiotherapist, chiropractic and osteopath techniques.

Shoulder Pain and Frozen Shoulder

Shoulder pain may be due to muscle or ligament damage in the shoulder joint area, or an injury to the joint itself. Frozen shoulder is specifically caused by inflammation within the joint, and can lead to extreme restriction of mobility. Referred neck pain can also be felt as shoulder pain.

Arm Pain

Chiropractors often identify this as referred shoulder or neck pain. However, it can also result from elbow or wrist joint injuries and damage to the arm muscles.

Tennis Elbow

Not restricted to tennis players, this is caused by repetitive action (generally of the wrist), resulting in straining of the tendons surrounding the elbow joint. Do you have neck pain/stiffness as well? Because if you do referred neck pain may be the cause!

Wrist Pain

This can result from a direct fall, or repetitive activity resulting in strained muscles and restricted wrist or hand mobility. It can also be referred neck pain from a neck trauma.

Migraine and Headaches

Headaches can be successfully treated in a chiropractic practice if they are caused by muscular tension or irritation of nerves around the neck vertebrae. There is good evidence that chiropractic can help cure headaches, so if you have neck pain and stiffness, either with or before your headaches, chiropractic combined with craniosacral therapy may well help you.

Spondylosis and arthritic pain

Using a combination of osteopath, chiropractic and physiotherapy methods Mr Massey can ensure relief from arthritic pain. While spondylosis refers to any degenerative spinal changes, arthritis specifically means inflammation of the joints. Arthritis comes in various forms. Osteoarthritis is caused by general wear and tear of the joints, and is common in older people North Wales.

Muscle Pain

Chiropractic treatment is effective in the reduction of muscle pain. This can occur anywhere in the body. It can be caused by something as simple as muscle strain resulting from overstretching, to a joint injury locking the supporting muscles into a spasm.

Nerve Pain

This can also occur anywhere in the body, and is often caused by a mechanical joint abnormality, resulting in inflammation of the nerve. A prolapsed spinal disc can also cause severe nerve pain.

Sports Injuries

In Flintshire, Denbighshire and across North Wales, sports injuries are a common sight in chiropractic clinics. Often a result of inadequate warm-ups or cool-downs, other causes include misuse of sports equipment, overtraining, falls, blows and collisions. Some sports injuries are more serious than others, and most will result in at least one of the above symptoms.

The range of conditions treated by the chiropractor at St Asaph Chiropractic Clinic is almost as extensive as the areas the clinic covers: Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Prestatyn, Mold, Rhuddlan, Denbigh and Ruthin to name but a few. Chiropractic treatment is suitable for all ages, from new-born babies to octogenarians.
